《單車楓葉情》簡體版 201410月由上海復旦大學出版社發行,期待與大陸讀者們分享加拿大和美國東岸單車旅行的感動回憶。

我很高兴有机会为此书写贺词。这本江心静(Pinky)叙述,林存青(Vicky)花了一百三十七天以单车横越加拿大五千五百公里的游记讲述了多数加拿大人无缘见识的加拿大。我要祝贺她们不只完成精彩旅程,同时感谢她们通过此书分享她们的经历。这是一个值得讲述的故事,感谢上海复旦大学出版社用简体中文出版此书,并把两位对加拿大的探索发现更近一步的呈现给中国大陆的朋友。

这已是我第四次被派驻到中国工作,并且我见证了在过去的几年里加中双边 关系的发展。近年来加拿大高层频繁访问中国,包括加拿大总理2012年到访华,2013年委派加拿大总督来华事访问。这些访问的一个共同主题就是在诸如教育,旅游等相关领域里进行交流的重要性。这些交流有助于建立跨文化的了解,增强加拿大和中国两国友好关系并为加拿大和中国人民建立更深入的联结。自从2010年中国政府批准加拿大成为旅游目的地国家以来,中国到加拿大旅游人数强劲增长,毫无疑问当我们的关系不断增进,这个趋势将会持续。希望中国游客尽情享受探索加拿大的乐趣,正如我很享受探索中国的不同风貌。 

不论这是一次非同世界任何地方的原野探险,享受纯净大自然,或是在加拿大某个城市里体验丰富多彩的文化,都值得旅游者细细品味。透过心静彷佛身历其境的文字,跟随存青单车轨迹,体验北极光、落矶山脉和尼加拉瓜瀑布,以及漫游无数加拿大村镇和城市,与来自不同地方的加拿大人分享人生故事,品尝美味健康的加拿大食品。我希望存青和心静在本书呈现的精采旅程激励每一个想要到加拿大体验探险与友谊的旅人,不论是长途或是短期旅行。

I am pleased to have the opportunity to write congratulatory words for this book, which tells about the 137 day, 5,500km journey of Vicky and Pinky, who have seen Canada in a way that most Canadians haven’t. I congratulate them on their trip, and thank them for sharing their experience through this book. Theirs is a story worth recounting, and I would also like to thank Fudan University Press for publishing the book in simplified Chinese, bringing the duo’s discovery of Canada closer to our mainland China friends. 

This is my fourth posting to China, and I have witnessed the development of our bilateral relationship over the years. There have been numerous Canadian high-level visits to China in recent years, including by our Prime Minister in 2012, and our Governor General in 2013. A common theme to these visits is the importance of exchanges related to areas such as tourism and education. These exchanges help build cross-cultural awareness; they help create the people-to-people links that deepen and grow the Canada-China relationship. Since China granted Canada Approved Destination Status in 2010, the number of Chinese visitors to Canada has grown exponentially. I have no doubt that this trend will continue as our ties become even stronger. I hope that Chinese visitors to Canada enjoy discovering Canada as much as I have and am enjoying discovering the many faces of China. 

Whether it is a wilderness adventure unlike anywhere in the world, enjoying our pristine environment, or a rich cultural experience in one of Canada’s great cities, there is plenty for visitors to do and see in Canada. Vicky and Pinky have seen natural wonders such as the Northern Lights, the Rocky Mountains and Niagara Falls, and they have also spent time in countless Canadian villages, towns and cities. They have met Canadians from all over the country and shared stories with them. They have sampled delicious and healthy Canadian food specialties.  I hope that the story Vicky and Pinky recount in this book inspires others to seek adventure and friendship in Canada, no matter how big or small their tour is. 

In Canada, there is something for everyone. I encourage you to go and see for yourself. In the meantime, enjoy the reading journey!

If your partner complains that you snore during your sleep, or if you wake up in the morning feeling tired and grouchy, you may have a common sleep disorder called sleep apnea. This means that at night, your airway is blocked and you stop breathing during your sleep. If you have this condition, you need to find treatment right away to avoid further problems.

Strengthen your throat and jaw with some basic exercises. Developing these muscles should reduce the symptoms of sleep apnea. You can exercise your throat and jaw by simply pulling your tongue or practicing some very simple breathing exercises. The goal is to train you to breathe differently and hopefully make your sleep apnea disappear.

Consider doing a few very specific exercises before going to bed each night, to alleviate some of your sleep apnea symptoms. Exercising throat and tongue muscles has been proven in scientific studies to reduce snoring, improve breathing and lessen the more profound effects of sleep apnea when done according to doctor's orders.

If you suffer from sleep apnea, it is vital to avoid consuming alcohol before bedtime. Alcohol acts as a sedative, therefore, it will naturally slow down your breathing. In addition, it will relax all the muscles in your body, including those in your throat that help to keep your airway open.

Sleeping at a high altitude can worsen your sleep apnea because of the lower levels of oxygen. If you are going to a place located higher than what you are used to, take a CPAP machine with you. The best thing to do would be to completely avoid high altitude.

Check if a corrective device can help alleviate your sleep apnea symptoms. Having an overbite, an undersized jaw or a recessed chin can cause your airway to be more narrow because of how your jawbone is set. These devices help create proper alignment of your jaw while you sleep, opening up your airway more. As a result, you experience fewer sleep apnea symptoms.

Sleep apnea does not go away on its own; patients need treatment. Some treatments work better for different people. If you lose weight you will help your sleep apnea, but this is not always the cause. CPAP machines are considered non-invasive, and many people use them successfully. Others prefer surgery to relieve their sleep apnea. Choose whichever method you think will work for you so you may begin to live a happy and comfortable life.

You can reduce sleep apnea with exercises to strengthen throat muscles. Sleep apnea is often caused by the tissues in the throat, which can relax and collapse while you sleep. When your muscles strengthen, their chances of collapse and airway blockage go down.

If simple changes in your lifestyle, such as regular sleep hours and losing weight, have not eliminated your sleep apnea episodes, it is time to consult with a sleep specialist. The specific causes of your sleep apnea can be evaluated, and an individual treatment plan can be designed for you.

By reading through the great sleep apnea tips found in this article, you are ready to face your problem head on. While you may not be able to rid yourself of the problem completely, you will feel more confident and start working towards that all-important goal, a good night's sleep.
